MAD FOR KEEPS (1958) contains selected reprints from the first 35 issues of MAD. It's a book like you'd expect from the publisher and editors of MAD. No title on cover (I added that to the scan). No table of contents. No clue when each piece originally appeared. All the title page says is, "A Collection of the Best From MAD Magazine." Which is itself misleading because most of these pieces came from MAD COMICS, Nov 1952 to May 1955 and fewer from the magazine, which started in September 1955. Turns out there are 48 stories (4 in color) in this 128-page hardcover book. Page size 8" x 10½", excellent condition, no creases or wrinkles, some minor wear on outside binding, no dust jacket. THE COMPLETELY MAD DON MARTIN (1974) contains a selection of Don Martin's best cartoons from MAD Magazine. Memorable mishaps, outlandish adventures, and kookie carryings-on of all the wild, zany, absurd characters Don has created over the years. Edited by Al Feldstein with Jerry DeFuccio, this big paperback book with no page numbers or table of contents will keep you laughing for hours. Page size 8.4" x 10.8", excellent condition, no creases or wrinkles. Printed on heavy newsprint, which has yellowed slightly as one might expect over nearly 50 years. SOLD |

COMPLETELY MAD (1991) by Maria Reidelbach is a comprehensive history of the MAD comic book and magazine. This giant 208-page all-color book with 10" x 10" pages, unlike most of the other books here does, in fact, have both a table of contents, a giant index, and 4 helpful appendices. The text is well-illustrated with selections from MAD and the art and layout by Alexander Isley Design and excellent production by Little Brown make this a book you might even leave out on your coffee table for unsuspecting friends to look at. Contents cover Issue #1 (1952) through #76 (1991). Like New condition. SOLD |

MAD: THE COMPLETE FIRST SIX ISSUES (2002) This oversize book (9" x 12") is an unbelievable job by Russ Cochran out in West Plains, Missouri. Bill Gaines, the original publisher of MAD methodically stored away all the original art, a rare practice in the 1950s. Russ arranged with Bill Gaines to use the original art, not a bad copy of a 50-year-old comic book as others had done, to make the enlarged(!), absolutely perfect printing plates for each of the six 32-page comics that make up this book. The back covers of each comic are given over to a fascinating interview with Harvey Kurtzman and Bill Gaines. The heavy wrap-around cover is loose from the book itself, but I deliberately left it that way so the cover wouldn't get bent as the book is opened for reading. Like New condition. SOLD |

AND THE ONE YOU'VE BEEN WAITING FOR BUT THOUGHT YOU'D NEVER SEE: 35 ACTUAL ISSUES OF MAD, #25 TO #66, IN ONE HUGE VOLUME!
|
|
35 MAD ISSUES #25 to #66 Okay, you're saying to yourself, "this guy can't count. From #25 to #66 is 42 issues. How come he says 35?" Well because 7 issues are missing (#26, 27, 29, 35, 41, 45, and 58). And while we're on problems, the professional library bindery got all confused because of the cover of Issue #46 (April 1959) was printed upside down on the back of the magazine. So Issue 46 and the cover of 47 are all screwed up; all the pages are in there, right side up, but in the wrong order. If it really bothers you, you can cut out the pages of Issue 46 and glue them back in correctly. As mentioned, this is a heavy, hardback professional library binding. The book is a giant 4" thick. Most of the magazine issues are absolutely pristine, grade 9.0 (VF/NM), and are like new. Of course, as you'd expect, the cheap paper has yellowed slightly from sitting on a shelf for 60 years. Total up the prices from sellers for all the issues in this condition and you'll come up with a mind-blowing $7,250+. Even in just 6.0 Fine condition, you're looking at $3,500+. But I'm an 81-year-old geezer, donating all the proceeds to Beyond the Walls (charity), so I'm selling this at the unbelievable Bargain Price of $2500. SOLD
